APPETITE

An iguana's appetite will increase as he gets larger, but if there are any sudden changes in the amount he eats, that can be a signal that there is something wrong. Always make sure there is enough heat for proper digestion. On occasion they may slack off on their food for a day. (Maybe they gorged the previous day.) But, if there are extended changes in the amount they eat it would be wise to take a trip to a vet.

VETERINARIANS

Always have a good vet on hand that sees “exotics.” They are specially trained for iguanas. Don't bring you're iguana to someone who does cats and dogs. Reptiles are far different. Do yourself a favor and locate a vet now so that when a problem arises you know where to go.

CLAWS

Iguana's have very sharp claws. When trimming it's best to use a claw trimmer, such as for a cat or dog. Don't cut up into the section where you can see the blood vessel, That would cause your iguana much pain. If he gets his claw caught in something and breaks it or pulls it out, don't panic. There may be a lot of blood. You can stop the bleeding with a salt stick and disinfedt the toe by dipping it in a mixture of half peroxide and half water. You may want to put some tripple ointment on it if there is chance of infection and keep it clean with a band-aid. Most minor cuts can be handeled in this way. Weather it grows back or not depends on how far the nail was broken off.

MISC.

Self cleaning ovens can give off unhealthy fumes. It's best to use this feature when your Iguana is outside.
